July Challenge - Day 4

It’s Friday! Don’t worry if you missed out and are only joining us now, just jump right in!

We build onto previous assignments, so remember to keep smiling today, give a hug and tell your children that you love them today.

Assignment for Day 4: Create a new family tradition!

In our house Fridays are traditionally – Movie night! It’s the only time of the week where we watch a movie (age appropriate of course and the little one has to be asleep first!)

On Friday evenings the coffee table makes way for the mattress that gets dragged downstairs in front of the TV, a big bowl of popcorn is made and we all lay in a row to watch the movie.

Every day our oldest asks: “What day is it today?” “It’s Thursday” “Then tomorrow is Friday?!” then a little scream as she realizes “MOVIE NIGHT!”

Traditions are important for families to have, it is time spent together making memories, memories which your children will take with them forever and will continue enjoying with their own families one day, so make it something to look forward to!

July Challenge - Day 3

The 31 day challenge isn't happening without its fair share of teething problems, but the comments, emails and feedback I've received so far definitely makes it worth the effort. Thank you to everyone who commented, whether by email or on our Facebook page. Every single one of them holds a special place in my inbox.

I certainly have to take part in the challenge, so yesterday when I started handing out hugs, the girls kept coming back for more!

Don’t worry if you missed out and are only joining us now, just jump right in!

We build onto previous assignments, so remember to keep smiling today and give a hug!

Assignment for Day 3: “I love you”

Only three words, but for some so difficult to say.

In our house it has formed part of the evening routine. Daddy reads a story and a Bible story, I put our youngest in bed while he and our oldest says a prayer and gets into bed. Sometimes Daddy lays next to her and they chat until it’s my turn. When I lay down next to our eldest I always say “Goodnight, love you.” with a kiss on her forehead. Her reply “Love you more mommy”

Just like hugs during the day in our house I’ll choose a time just to assure her that, no matter what, I will always love her. It’s important to know that we are loved, even if we don’t deserve it! It’s exactly at the times when we deserve it the least that we need to hear it the most.

July Challenge - Day 2

It’s Wednesday and it means we are halfway to the weekend!

Don’t worry if you missed out and are only joining us now, just jump right in!

We build onto yesterday’s assignment, so remember to keep smiling today.

Assignment for Day 2: It’s HUG day

If you’ve read Gary Chapman’s book “The 5 Love Languages” you will know that physical touch is some peoples love language. I’m not that person! From the time our children were born I made it a part of our everyday lives because I realised just how important it is.

During the day, when the thought occurs to me, I’ll call our eldest to come to me without telling her why and give her a big monster hug, it’s difficult on days where I’m torn into a million different directions and behaviours were less than stellar, but that hug means more to both of us than I will ever be able to describe in a thousand words.

So today, doesn’t matter what happened just ten minutes ago or how pressed for time you are, go and give each of your children a hug. If it’s uncommon in your family, start with just one hug for this day. If you hug each other on a regular basis, just work in a bonus hug for the day!
